This Crack Dip recipe is rightly named – it’s a totally addicting appetizer. Cold crack dip is a creamy sour cream based dip filled with ranch, cheese and bacon. It’s easy to make and perfect for anytime you want a quick snack! Best of all, it is gluten-free!
Easy Crack Dip- What is it?
Crack dip. What the what? I had never heard of it but I’ve seen it all over Pinterest. It’s been pinned SO many times. I was intrigued. Well, it’s that good. It’s creamy dip goodness. With bacon. Everything is always so much better with bacon. If you are looking for the perfect appetizer or snack, this is totally it!
I mean really, a dip that’s simply called crack dip must be good. And by good, I mean insanely can’t live without it good.
To me, the name implies that it’s addicting. That you will have no self control around this appetizer. That you will eat too much and you won’t care.
I adapted this recipe from Plain Chicken. The first time I made it I used the bacon bits as called for. But I just found it waaaay too salty.
Like, it seriously overwhelmed my palate salty. And I am a salt lover so that says a lot. It was just too much for me. So I changed it up and used real bacon. It was SO much better. Also, feel free to double the amount of bacon. Or triple… I won’t judge.
I also used the ranch dip mix instead of the dressing mix because the dip mix is gluten-free. Now, Adam is able to enjoy the recipe for crack dip with me instead of me eating the whole bowl of dip by myself.
Because that definitely would have happened. Hello, it’s called crack dip for a reason.
Pro Tip from Sharon’s kitchen to yours
I know the crack dip recipe calls for chilling the dip for 24 hours before serving. I know that sounds like an eternity. It’s such a tease, make a great dip and you can’t do anything but look at it forever.
But please just trust me on this one, you’re going to want to wait the 24 hours. I gave it a little taste test after two hours the first time I made it, just to see. It was ok…
Ok, it was good. It just wasn’t awesome. I tried it again after the 24 hours and it was 10001% better. All the flavors had a chance to mingle and hang out and really get all friendly and delicious. I’m telling you, don’t skip on the chilling time, you’ll just be sacrificing the flavor!

Hey Shay, (How many times have you heard that? He he.I’m a precision cook to start. When I see an interesting recipe, I read all the variations I can to get a feel of what flavor they are trying to go for. Then I use my own creativity and go from there. I have never published and I respect your honesty to give credit.A lot of praise to get you my question. How much ranch powder mix do you use. I buy the Hidden Valley Ranch mix in bulk at Costco. Can you give me a starting point of how much you add? I follow a lot of baking sites like Sally’s Baking Kitchen so I weigh with a digital scale. Thanks for your response. I would like to go on instagram as I specialize in cheesecakes. Would love any hints or directions.
Thank you. Tom Bashaw.
That’s great you have a scale! It’s 28g of the mix (or 1 oz.). But since you have a bulk, you can add more or less to your liking 🙂
Do you think it would work with plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream…?
I haven’t tried it with greek yogurt so I couldn’t tell you for sure. If you do try it, let me know!
This is also really really good with ritz crackers! Such an awesome dip! Making it for the patriots vs bears game this weekend! Thanks!!
Go Pats!
Does putting the cooked bacon in for 24 hrs make it too soft or chewy? Has anyone made this dip more then 1 day ahead?
The bacon in the dip doesn’t stay crispy but it flavors the dip. You can top it with additional crispy bacon before serving if you want that texture!
Thanks for such a delicious recipe. I had similar type dish a while ago but with your recipe now I can make these on my own at home. Thanks again
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it!

Help
Hi Karrie – use the whole 1 oz package.
I see the on and on description, tons of ads and the signup to subscribe, but NOT the actual recipe.
If you’re on mobile, click READ MORE and it will load the rest of the post with the recipe. If you’re on desktop, it’s above the comments section. I’ve checked on both mobile and desktop and they are both appearing fine for me.

Anything with bacon is good for me! Thanks for the tip on the chilling time!
