Black Forest Overnight Oats

Oh Monday morning, how we dread you so. It’s the first day of a long work week. Maybe you just had an awesome weekend. Maybe it was relaxing. Maybe it wasn’t so great.

Maybe you worked all weekend. Or whatever kind of weekend you had, I’m sure you’re not super pleased that it’s Monday morning. Again. So let’s start the day with a little pick-me-up. Some easily earned endorphins. Let’s start the day with some chocolate.

Not only do these Black Forest Overnight Oats incorporate chocolate into your breakfast, they’re also secretly healthy. How great is that?! There’s no added sugar in the oatmeal unless you choose to add the mini chocolate chips.

Enjoy Life Mini Chips are the best choice since there are very little added ingredients. You can leave them out if you want but I really think they add so much. They add just a hint of sweetness and a really great texture contrast to the soft oatmeal.

I like to top the Black Forest Overnight Oats with the mini chocolate chips and some extra cherries because black forest cakes are usually garnished with cherries and chocolate shavings.

This is such a fun twist on a classic dessert made healthy enough to enjoy for breakfast. So do yourself a favor and make these overnight oats tonight so they’ll be ready for you in the morning. Enjoy!

I don’t have much experience with German chocolate anything, but I rather enjoyed this! I used frozen/thawed cherries that I halved (and used only 1/4 cup of that per serving). I look forward to trying them with fresh cherries once those come out at a reasonable price! I did include the chocolate chips, and I eventually started adding 2 T of unsweetened shredded coconut to each serving. That added some amazing texture and really thickened up the fairly runny oats! It was fantastic! I want to say German chocolate generally has coconut-y frosting, so I figured that’d be a viable addition. It turned out well, and I’d recommend it! It makes the whole thing even healthier, too! 😀 This is definitely a recipe I’ll revisit. Thanks so much!

    Sharon,

I had tried overnight oats in the past but did not like it so I did not try them again, this happened a long time ago, but last week I found your site and this recipe, I decided to give it a try because as a normal woman I love chocolate. I normally do not give feedback on the recipes I find on the internet because either I think the author won’t read my post or because the recipe did not go well, but this recipe for overnight oats deserved some time and words, I loved it, thank you thank you for sharing it and the only reason I am not eating it every single morning is because I am afraid I might be sick of it some day and I dont want that because it is delicious and it is a great alternative to eat oatmeal. Thanks again for sharing and I will try some of your other recipes.

  3. Lena says:

Do you really HAVE to use cherries?

    • Sharon says:

You don’t have to, but that’s what adds to the black forest factor. If you want you can leave them out and just have plain chocolate overnight oats.
