I’ve always loved pistachios. They give me that sense of nostalgia that you sometimes get with food memories. Or any fond memories really. Pistachios are that one snack that my mom, my sister, and I would always gather around and share together. We’d chat and we’d snack. We’d always have a nice moment when snacking on some pistachios. Any arguments would be set aside and we’d just enjoy shelling and eating our pistachios and chat about anything and everything. Love moments like that, you?

Not only are pistachios a nostalgic food for me, they’re also a great choice for a healthy snack! That’s right, pistachios are good for you! Pistachios are known as the ‘Skinny Nut’ because you get more pistachios per serving than you would get with most other nuts since they’re one of the lowest calorie and are one of the lowest fat nuts. They’re also a great source of protein and fiber (3g/serving). With about 49 in-shell pistachios per serving, you’ve got yourself a filling snack! But sometimes you might want a little more than one flavor right? Pistachios pair perfectly with some other flavors. My favorite in-shell pistachio pairing includes pistachios, fresh sweet cherries and a bit of dark chocolate. Salty pistachios, sweet cherries and the bite of bittersweet chocolate to finish it off is a winner of a snack. It hits all of your key taste profiles you’re looking for in a quick fix: sweet, salty and bitter. And of course, that chocolate! A small amount of dark chocolate is great for keeping on track with your healthy eating goals. It helps you feel like you’re not depriving yourself while offering some great health benefits as well. Antioxidants, anyone? But don’t go overboard, k? Just a bite.

    This is a great pairing! I’ve always enjoyed pistachios with cranberry in a bread or cake. I must try them with chocolate next time!

    I love pistachios! They’re linked to tons of fun travels memories with my family. For some reason they were a go-to snack for road trips, which is weird because of the shells and all. I can see how they’d pair awesomely with dark chocolate and cherries.
