This simple strawberry frosting recipe is an American buttercream and made without cream cheese.
American Buttercream is unfussy and easy to make with minimal prep. You can make this strawberry buttercream in less than 10 minutes.
I just use freeze-dried strawberries because they have a more intense flavor than fresh strawberries. Using freeze-dried strawberries will not add additional moisture to the buttercream, which could change the consistency of your frosting.
I make a fresh strawberry concentrate for my strawberry cream cheese frosting recipe if you’re interested in experimenting with cooked strawberry puree.
But for this recipe, using extra freeze-dried strawberries eliminates the need to make a strawberry reduction, which will save you a tremendous amount of time.
Save the fresh strawberries for decorating ❤️
Key Ingredients and Notes
Freeze Dried Strawberries – this is where all the strawberry flavor comes from. You can find sliced freeze-dried strawberries in most grocery stores and on Amazon. You can also purchase freeze-dried strawberry powder, which is especially handy if you don’t want to use or don’t have a food processor.
