What is a Spritzer?

A spritzer is a carbonated/bubbly drink served in a tall glass with ice. It can be made with or without alcohol.

White wine spritzers are the most popular type of spritzers (see TIPS below) but any flavored drink mixed with sparkling water or soda water can be considered a spritzer.

Tips for Making Flavorful Spritzers

  • Use fresh citrus instead of bottled or concentrated juice. It will make your spritzers taste light and refreshing.
  • Add a splash of vodka to turn these citrus spritzers into a Vodka Spritzer.
  • Make a White Wine Spritzer by reducing the sparkling water to 2 oz and add 4 oz. white wine. Halve the fresh citrus juice and rosemary simple syrup.
  • Sub cranberry juice for the citrus juice for a gorgeous holiday mocktail.

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh citrus juice of your choice
  • 2 ounces rosemary simple syrup
  • 6 ounces sparkling water such as San Pellegrino
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs and slices/wedges of your preferred citrus fruit for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Fill a 16-ounce mason jar or cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Pour the citrus juice and rosemary simple syrup over the ice.
  • Secure a lid onto the container, then shake vigorously to chill.
  • Pour the mixture into a small cocktail tumbler or other 8-ounce glass.
  • Pour the sparkling water over the juice mixture until the glass is filled as desired.
  • Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig and/or fresh slices of citrus fruit, then serve.

Notes

  1. Use any citrus juice of your choice - lemon, lime, grapefruit, and orange all pair well with rosemary.
  2. You can drain the shaken juice & simple syrup mixture off the ice or pour the ice into your glass - it’s your choice.
  3. This can also be stirred instead of shaken.
  4. Substitute a lemon-lime soda such as Sprite or Sierra Mist or grapefruit soda such as Fresca for the sparkling water if desired.
  5. To make more than one serving at a time, simply multiply the ingredients at a 1:1:3 juice to simple syrup to sparkling water ratio.
