You get the idea.

Can I use this recipe for Whipped Cream Frosting?
I wouldn’t recommend this whipped cream recipe to use as a whipped cream frosting unless you’re using it for an ice cream cake or an icebox cake.
The whipped cream isn’t stable enough to support a layer cake. However, my 2-ingredient White Chocolate Ganache Whipped Cream makes an excellent frosting for a cake. I pair it with my Eggnog Cake and it’s fabulous!
Whipped Cream Ingredients
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Pure Vanilla Extract
- Powdered Sugar
Is heavy cream the same as heavy whipping cream?
The short answer is…kind of. Although heavy cream and heavy whipping cream are essentially the same in the eyes of the Food and Drug Administration, they’re entirely different for us bakers. What you need to know is that the higher the milk fat content then the thicker the consistency will be. Can’t decide which cream is the “cream of the crop”? When in doubt, check the nutritional facts. The lower the milk fat, the better when it comes to making homemade whipped cream.

Equipment Needed to Make Whipped Cream
- Large bowl (preferably with tall sides to reduce splatter)
- Liquid measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer with a whisk attachment
How to Make Homemade Whipped Cream
Step 1. Add the heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar to a large bowl. For best results, chill the bowl and beaters for 30 minutes before making the whipped cream.
Step 2. Beat until medium peaks form (halfway between soft and stiff).
Tips for Making Whipped Cream
- Use cold ingredients. Make sure your cream is super cold. Even better, put the bowl and whisk in the fridge for 30 minutes before whipping your cream.
- Don’t walk away. It’s easy to set your stand mixer and leave it for a few minutes to multi-task. Cream whips so quickly you don’t want to walk away or you run the risk of making sweetened butter.
- Replace CoolWhip with homemade whipped cream. Use an equal amount of homemade whipped cream in place of CoolWhip or other frozen whipped toppings.
